The Challenge
Every year, millions of tons of clothing are discarded—most of it barely worn. It's an overwhelming stream of waste, driven by an industry that encourages constant consumption and treats fashion as throwaway.
Behind the low price tags and fast-changing trends lies a sobering truth: the impact doesn’t stop at the checkout counter. Much of the world’s unwanted clothing ends up far from where it was bought, dumped in landfills or burned in countries with little capacity to handle the toxic load.
Local communities are left to deal with the consequences—polluted waterways, burning waste piles, and environmental damage that affects both wildlife and human health.
And the problem is only growing. It’s a crisis we can no longer afford to ignore.
The Work-in-Progress
At Colección Berlin, we believe in quality over quantity. Every piece is created with care, not haste—because mindful design means less waste. Sustainability is woven into how we work, and here’s how we’re putting that into practice.
1. We create clothing that’s made to last.
One of the most effective ways to fight fast fashion is to focus on durability. We use high-quality fabrics and craftsmanship so each piece can live in your wardrobe for years—not just for one tango. Longevity means less waste, and that’s where real change begins.
2. We follow a "dance-tested first" approach.
Before anything goes into production, each design is put to the test—on the dance floor. We create multiple prototypes, refining the fit, fabric, and movement with every step until it feels just right. Only then do we move into small-batch production, ensuring we make pieces that truly work for dancers—without overproducing styles that haven’t earned their place in your wardrobe.
3. We design with you—and the dance floor—in mind.
Your feedback plays a big role in how our collection evolves, but inspiration also comes from watching how tangueras bring their outfits to life. We love seeing how pieces are styled, mixed, and matched—whether it's Colección Berlin or a favorite item from another brand. This helps us create designs that feel authentic, versatile, and truly desired. We don’t believe in mass-producing what might not be worn—so keep sharing your looks, thoughts, and moments with us. You inspire every stitch.
4. Testing New Fabrics for Durability and Comfort
At Colección Berlin, we are always exploring new fabrics to blend sustainability with durability in our designs. We’ve been testing materials like bamboo, lyocell, viscose, and various polyester blends to ensure they not only look beautiful but can also withstand the demands of dance. Each fabric type has its own unique qualities, and the variations in quality are vast—so working with trusted suppliers and conducting extensive fabric testing are crucial. We carefully assess each fabric for its performance, comfort, and longevity on the dance floor, allowing us to create pieces that are both stylish and built to last.
5. We believe in giving every piece a chance to dance.
Each Colección Berlin style takes time to design, refine, and bring to life. Along the way, we create prototypes and one-of-a-kind pieces—some don’t make it into the main collection, while others might be the very last of a fabric we held onto as a reference. Instead of letting them go to waste, we give them a second chance through our Archive Sale—your opportunity to snag something unique at a special price.
6. We ship like it’s Tetris and no plastic bags, ever.
You won’t receive a huge box with just a lipstick inside. We pack every order carefully, maximizing space to reduce waste and shipping emissions. And we never use plastic bags—your clothes are wrapped in soft Seidenpapier (silk paper) for a touch of luxury. Have suggestions for improvement? We’re always open to them!
Thank you for sticking with us until the end! ❤
Our commitment to sustainability is a continuous journey, and we're always striving to do better. As we uncover new ways to reduce waste and improve our practices, we'll update this page to keep you in the loop.
